Hurricane Simon, a small but powerful storm, has been strengthening off west-central Mexico near Cabo Corrientes, with winds climbing to about 110-125 mph and a central pressure near 965 mb as of October 13. GDACS issued an orange alert for Simon, noting the storm's maximum winds reached roughly 250 km/h at its peak. Combined with the earlier impact of Tropical Storm Rachel, the storms have killed at least five people along Mexico's Pacific coast, including a 71-year-old man killed when a wall collapsed in Chilpancingo, Guerrero. Flooding downed trees and power poles, blocked roads, and inundated homes, prompting helicopter rescues of dozens of stranded residents. Authorities in Guerrero and Baja California Sur continue to monitor Simon as it remains a significant offshore threat, with infrastructure damage and flooding already reported across the region.
