The remnants of Tropical Storm Rachel brought extreme weather to the southwestern United States and Baja California over the weekend of October 10-12, 2026. In Southern California, intense waves and flooding destroyed a boardwalk in Long Beach, damaged beachside homes, and overtook city streets; Las Vegas and Mexico's Baja California were also affected as Rachel weakened into a post-tropical system. Further inland, about 70 runners competing in Utah's Moab 240 ultramarathon were stranded by flash flooding from Rachel's remnants and had to be evacuated from the race route; organizers confirmed all runners were safely accounted for.
