Hurricane Isaias made landfall near Destin, Florida as a Category 2 storm, hammering the Florida Panhandle and southern Alabama with damaging winds, heavy rain and life-threatening storm surge. At least four people died, some from falling trees, and nearly 396,000 customers lost power as the storm moved north, prompting states of emergency in Mississippi, Alabama and Florida. As Isaias weakened to a post-tropical cyclone, it continued producing heavy rainfall and flash flood risk across the central Appalachians and mid-Atlantic region. Florida Governor Ron DeSantis said no search-and-rescue requests had been received, calling it a sign residents heeded evacuation warnings.
