Two tornadoes, which began as waterspouts, struck the coastal town of Marsala in western Sicily on October 9, 2026, causing what experts described as an almost unprecedented event for the Italian island. The storms injured dozens of people, with at least 11 taken to hospital after being struck by flying debris and glass. The tornadoes damaged buildings including a school, overturned cars, and left a trail of devastation across Marsala and the nearby town of Petrosino, south of Trapani.
