Colombia formally opened its embassy in West Jerusalem on Wednesday under new right-wing President Abelardo de la Espriella, becoming the tenth country to do so. Israeli Foreign Minister Gideon Sa'ar hailed the move as the start of a 'golden age' in relations and called it 'breaking new ground,' while Palestinian officials condemned the shift, which reverses the previous Colombian government's cuts to ties with Israel. Algeria's foreign ministry separately condemned the move as an illegal attempt to alter the legal status of Jerusalem in violation of international law, and domestically in Colombia, opposition groups led by former President Gustavo Petro protested against the new government's austerity measures and its embrace of Israel.
