Tropical Storm Simon, which earlier struck Mexico's Pacific coast as a hurricane, was weakening offshore of west-central Mexico as of Thursday, October 15, 2026, with winds down to about 45 mph and expected to become a remnant low within a day. GDACS had issued an orange alert for Simon, estimating 62 people affected by Category 1-level winds in Mexico during its active phase from October 7-16. Simon, together with Tropical Storm Rachel, killed at least five people along Mexico's Pacific coast, including a 71-year-old man killed when a wall collapsed in Chilpancingo, Guerrero. The storms caused flash flooding, downed trees and power poles, blocked roads, and prompted helicopter rescues of dozens of stranded people.
