Iran's navy and army reported that another non-compliant oil tanker caught fire while attempting to pass through a restricted zone east of the Strait of Hormuz on October 16, the latest in a series of such incidents. Iran's army chief, Major General Amir Hatami, said the Strait of Hormuz would remain closed until Iran's rights are respected. Separately, Iran's army spokesman said new operational plans are underway to push American naval vessels, which have already pulled back to over 500 kilometers from Iran's coastline, even farther from the region. The statements reflect continued Iranian military pressure around the strategic waterway following the war with the US and Israel.
