Russia launched a massive overnight attack on October 16 into October 17, firing 315 drones and 15 Banderol or Dan-T missiles, of which Ukrainian air defenses intercepted 253 drones and nine missiles. Russian strikes killed at least three people and injured 53 overnight, with separate attacks killing two and injuring 17 at a Kharkiv market and cutting power to 280,000 customers there, while two more were killed and six injured in Dnipropetrovsk region and four injured in Dnipro city. Strikes also hit Rivne, Kovel, Vinnytsia and Prykarpattia, killing one person and injuring five, struck a customs terminal in Kovel setting trucks ablaze, damaged an energy facility in Ternopil region, caused a minor ammonia leak in Volyn, and shattered more than 100 windows in Kharkiv's Slobidskyi district. Air raid alerts were issued early October 17 for Kyiv and other regions after Ukraine's Air Force warned of ballistic missiles heading toward Kryvyi Rih, Zaporizhzhia and the Dnipro area, along with approaching attack drones. Emergency crews in Dnipropetrovsk Oblast used climbing equipment to remove an unexploded warhead from a Russian Geran-4 drone lodged on an overhead power line 60 meters above the ground.
