Uganda began a Phase 1 trial of a vaccine candidate against the Bundibugyo strain of Ebola in the town of Masaka in southern Uganda on October 17, 2026. The trial marks a significant step in developing protection against the strain, for which there is currently no approved treatment or vaccine, as the virus continues to circulate in the region.
