Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi led a delegation to the 52nd Council of Foreign Ministers of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation in Baghdad, which opened on October 17, 2026, holding a series of bilateral meetings including with his Turkish, Egyptian, Lebanese, Libyan and Algerian counterparts. Iran's envoy said Tehran would push for regional security arrangements free of foreign interference and for the OIC to reapprove a resolution condemning last year's 12-day US-Israeli war on Iran. At the summit and separately at the UN, Iranian officials, including Araghchi and Deputy Foreign Minister Saeed Khatibzadeh, called for a ceasefire covering 'all fronts' to end the regional war and urged the UN Security Council to act decisively to hold Israel accountable for its 'aggression' across West Asia. Iran also stressed that any arrangements for Gaza's future must fully respect Palestinian rights and blamed the US and Israel for the situation affecting the Strait of Hormuz.
