The United Nations reported on October 17, 2026 that Gaza residents, including Ahmed Al-Omari and many other families, are bracing for another winter of cold and flooding while living in tattered tents and damaged buildings, using items such as flour sacks as makeshift flood barriers. The report highlights the continuing humanitarian crisis in Gaza nearly three years after the war began, with reconstruction and permanent housing still largely absent and families remaining vulnerable to seasonal weather on top of ongoing conflict.
