Russia's Chief of the General Staff Valery Gerasimov claimed Russian forces captured over 1,800 square kilometers and roughly 92 settlements, including Kostiantynivka and Dobropillia, since early September, and advanced to within 5 kilometers of Zaporizhzhia. Ukraine's General Staff and the Azov Regiment rejected the claims as false, saying Dobropillia, Kostiantynivka, Orikhiv and Velykomykhailivka remain under Ukrainian control. Separately, Ukrainian military officials said Russian commanders have ordered troops to capture Orikhiv, Preobrazhenka and Tavriiske by the end of October, but Russian forces have so far failed to establish a foothold in Orikhiv despite false reports claiming otherwise.
