New research shows that walking as few as 3,000 steps per day can help slow brain changes associated with Alzheimer's disease, with stronger benefits appearing at 5,000 to 7,500 steps daily. The study found that physical activity was linked to less buildup of harmful tau proteins and nearly half the cognitive and functional decline in people already showing early signs of the disease, suggesting that the widely promoted 10,000-step daily goal may be unnecessary.
