Russia fired at least 16 ballistic missiles and more than 200 drones at Ukraine overnight on October 18-19, striking 28 substations and other energy facilities across 11 oblasts and cutting power to at least 550,000 households, President Volodymyr Zelensky said. The attack killed at least four people and injured dozens more, with strikes hitting Kyiv, Kyiv Oblast's Irpin and Obukhiv district, Kryvyi Rih, Khmelnytskyi, Rivne, Mykolaiv and Lviv Oblast, damaging a water-purification plant, a plastics factory, a Kyiv data center, the Cosmo Multimall, an ice rink and the Accounting Chamber building. Ukrainian air defenses reported downing 418 of 463 attack drones in the prior 24 hours, while Poland scrambled military jets twice in response to the barrage. Kyiv authorities worked to restore metro service past a damaged station and reopen the shopping mall, as officials warned of growing risks to the capital's water supply and a possible sewage crisis this winter.
