Ukraine's military carried out what it called a first-of-its-kind operation, using a modified heavy hexacopter drone to evacuate a wounded infantryman from a front-line position under intense Russian fire, officials said on October 19. The mission involved the 92nd Separate Assault Brigade, the 30th Separate Mechanized Brigade, the 10th Army Corps and drone manufacturer Gurzuf Defense, after ground robots could not be used due to mined routes and heavy Russian drone activity. The wounded soldier is now receiving medical care, and officials cited the operation as an example of innovation addressing growing risks to ground evacuation on the battlefield.
