A former longtime Call of Duty designer publicly criticized Activision executives on October 20, 2026 for profiting from recently released PlayStation ports of Black Ops 1 and 2 without compensating the original developers. Treyarch developer Gavin Goslin, posting on LinkedIn, called the situation 'bittersweet' given the games' massive commercial success. The ports reportedly sold more than 11 million combined copies on PS4 and PS5. The developer, who said he endured crunch to help ship the original titles, argued developers should receive royalties when older games are re-released, calling it 'hard to watch' executives benefit while contributors gained nothing.
