Iran's UN ambassador Gholamhossein Darzi called for an emergency Security Council meeting on October 20, 2026, urging condemnation of what Tehran called President Trump's "brazen" talk of using the "Mother of All Bombs" against Iran and renewed Israeli threats. Iranian officials, including the top military commander, President Pezeshkian, Foreign Ministry spokesperson Esmaeil Baqaei and Tehran's ambassador to Russia Kazem Jalali, said Iran's armed forces would defend the country "under any circumstances" and respond proportionately or more harshly to any new aggression.
