Israeli Finance Minister Bezalel Smotrich said on a podcast that Israel should annex territory it currently occupies in Gaza and Lebanon to make its enemies 'truly feel the cost of their mistake and the cost of their defeat.' He said Israel should annex up to its current holding lines, and further into Lebanon up to and beyond Beirut if Hezbollah attacks again. The remarks reflect hardline positions within Netanyahu's coalition ahead of the Knesset election and add to tensions with Lebanon over the Hezbollah disarmament dispute.
