The US State Department ordered non-essential embassy staff and family members to leave Saudi Arabia on October 21 and 22 after Iran-backed Houthi attacks killed at least three people, including strikes on King Fahd International Airport in Dammam that killed one person and wounded eight, and a drone strike on the Shaybah oil field that killed two. Washington said it is also preparing similar departure orders for other Gulf missions as Houthi strikes on civilian airports and infrastructure escalate. Saudi-led coalition forces reported intercepting multiple drones targeting the kingdom's eastern and southern regions. Egyptian President Abdel Fattah el-Sisi said Egypt would help defend Saudi territory and borders if requested but would not join any attack on Yemen, while Egypt's parliament delayed a vote on authorizing such support until October 26. Iran's IRGC Navy separately claimed to have hit seven vessels in the Gulf, warning of a wider response to US provocations.
