Canva announced the launch of Canva Craft, its first in-house image generation model, which competes directly with offerings from OpenAI, Microsoft, and Google, according to reporting from TechCrunch and The Verge on October 22. The model uses a two-stage architecture that plans a design before generating an image, allowing for greater precision, consistency and control compared to traditional generation approaches. Canva Craft can generate images at up to 2K resolution and in more than 30 aspect ratios. The release marks Canva's deeper commitment to AI-powered design tools and represents another entrant in the increasingly crowded generative image market. By developing its own model rather than relying solely on third-party APIs, Canva aims to offer users more control and customization for their design workflows.
