Amer Ghalib, the former mayor of Hamtramck, Michigan and the first Arab and Muslim-American elected official to endorse Donald Trump for president in 2024, announced he has accepted a role as Trump's adviser on Arab-American affairs. He made the announcement on Facebook late Wednesday, October 21, 2026, from Washington, saying he had told Trump there must be limits on hate speech against Arab and Muslim Americans.
