Masked Israeli settlers were filmed assaulting Washington Post photojournalist Heidi Levine and attacking French, Belgian and Polish diplomats who were observing the Palestinian olive harvest in the occupied West Bank in mid-October 2026. Israeli police later released nine of ten suspects detained in the case and placed them under house arrest, while separately detaining foreign activists for allegedly joining the harvest without coordinating with authorities and moving to deport 11 of them. Additional footage showed settlers dancing at a wedding to an anti-Zionist anthem and stealing olives from Palestinian-owned trees, prompting Jerusalem Post and Haaretz commentary calling for explicit condemnation of harvest-season violence and theft. The IDF separately disclosed that its detention of a US lawmaker nominee and 90 West Bank volunteers involved a disputed coordination request from Rabbis for Human Rights.
