Staff at Adelaide Zoo in Australia confirmed that a pair of southern cassowaries laid bright green eggs on October 23, 2026, marking the first successful breeding of the species at the facility in 34 years. Zoo staffers said they do not yet know whether the eggs are viable and will hatch into chicks, but the eggs themselves represent a major achievement given how difficult it is to breed the large, fierce birds in captivity.
