Switzerland's glaciers are disappearing at an alarming rate, with new data published October 23, 2026 showing that nearly 20% of the country's glacier ice vanished in just five years and more than 5% melted during 2026 alone. Some of Switzerland's most famous glaciers experienced their worst melting on record, while several smaller glaciers disappeared completely, driven by unusually snowless winters and extreme summer heat.
