Archaeologists in Norway uncovered a Viking Age coin on October 23, 2026 so rare that it is already being considered a national treasure, found among a hoard of 5,500 coins from the period. Fewer than 20 coins minted under Norwegian King Olaf II Haraldsson have ever been found; one researcher commented, "We can almost imagine Olaf himself holding this coin in his hand."
