The Milwaukee Brewers defeated the Tampa Bay Rays 3-2 in Game 1 of the World Series on Friday night in Milwaukee. Brewers pitcher Jacob Misiorowski set a new World Series record with a 103.5 mph pitch, the first offering of the game, and right-hander Brandon Woodruff, out since July 4 with a shoulder injury, was added to the roster in place of Chad Patrick. Commissioner Rob Manfred said a Rays-Brewers matchup is good for baseball's image as a sport where small markets can win, but reiterated that a salary cap is still needed so such teams can compete regularly. ESPN also published extensive preview and feature coverage of Misiorowski ahead of the series.
