Ukraine and Russia conducted a prisoner exchange on October 23, the first in two months, with 270 Ukrainians returned from Russian captivity and 270 Russian POWs returned to Russia, according to Ukrainian officials. Russian human rights commissioner Yana Lantratova said civilians from 12 families were also reunited, and separately seven more Ukrainian civilians were repatriated in exchange with Russia. Among those released, five had previously been believed to have died in the July 2022 attack on the Olenivka prison, President Zelensky said. Ukraine's Security Service released footage of the exchange.
