The Archdiocese of New York has agreed to an $800 million settlement with 1,300 survivors of sexual abuse by clergy members and lay workers, according to an attorney for some of the plaintiffs on October 24. The agreement represents one of the largest payouts by a U.S. Catholic diocese and resolves claims spanning decades of abuse within the archdiocese.
