Iran has ramped up efforts to target US personnel, with lethal plots against American citizens reaching 'advanced stages,' a senior Trump administration intelligence official warned in a memo seen by Reuters and reported October 24, 2026. Director of National Intelligence Jay Clayton issued the alert. The warning came after Washington scaled back staffing at its mission in Saudi Arabia earlier in the week in response to intensified attacks by Iran-allied Houthi forces.
