Hundreds of thousands of people marched across France on October 25, 2026, to protest the rising cost of living and cuts to public services. Students, workers and retirees marched side by side, and demonstrations were largely peaceful, though clashes broke out in major cities as the demonstrations ended. The government put turnout at 410,000, while the CGT union estimated the figure was almost twice as high. France 24 reported that police made nearly 1,000 arrests nationwide. The interior ministry said on Sunday that at least 1,300 people were arrested and at least 50 officers and three protesters were hurt. Many protesters said their anger shows no sign of fading.
