A fan petition urging EA to save Mass Effect passed 200,000 signatures by October 26, 2026, days after BioWare was shut down. IGN reported that videos from both Commander Shepard actors, Jennifer Hale and Mark Meer, and posts from the Destiny community pushed the petition past 200,000. Eurogamer and PC Gamer had earlier reported totals of about 187,000 and 180,000. Hale and Meer told PC Gamer the studio was in the hands of ownership that may not have understood what BioWare fully is, and the creator of PC Gamer's running RPG of the year said BioWare was fundamental to the genre. Leaks and developer comments revealed more about the canceled Mass Effect game. IGN reported that its story would have accounted for all choices from the earlier games, and technical director Romain Toutain said in a livestream that players could plug saves together to create parallel universes. PC Gamer also ran a piece in which Tim Sweeney revisited his 26-year-old eulogy for Looking Glass, a closure comparison that fits the moment.
