Egypt's parliament voted with a two-thirds majority on October 26 to authorise President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi to support Saudi Arabia against Houthi attacks. The authorisation lets Sisi take all necessary measures to help the kingdom defend itself if Riyadh requests help. Sisi said assistance would be limited to defending Saudi territory and borders rather than attacking the Houthis in Yemen, though Reuters noted the move could push Cairo more directly into the conflict. Egypt has condemned Iranian-backed attacks on Gulf countries but has not joined the Mecca mutual defense pact.
