The UN raised ethnic cleansing concerns on Monday, 26 October 2026, after Israel launched an operation to forcibly displace more than 3,000 Palestinians from their homes in Hebron in the West Bank. France 24 reported that the operation followed a Friday attack in which two Palestinian gunmen killed two Israeli soldiers at a checkpoint near the city. UN rights chief Volker Turk said in a statement that the aggressive operation must end and that collective punishment is a grave violation of international law.
