Officials in Maryland are encouraging schoolchildren to help control the invasive blue catfish in the Chesapeake Bay by eating it. NPR National reported on the effort on October 26, 2026. The blue catfish is an invasive, voracious predator now competing with native species such as blue crabs and striped bass. Officials hope that because the fish is tasty, harvesting and eating it could help reduce its numbers and protect the bay.
