Atlas Obscura published a feature on Tuesday about the Melvin-Lewis Pioneer Cemetery in Aurora, Colorado. The cemetery is a small plot of grass, about 200 by 120 feet, bordered by a wrought iron fence and tucked behind a Chick-Fil-A restaurant. The grounds hold the remains of early settlers and the ashes of hundreds of others from over a century. The site was once the Melvin community, centred on John and Jane Melvin's Twelve Mile House ranch, an important stopping point for westward travellers.
