Yemen's Houthis called on people to evacuate immediately from the international airport in Aden, the main gateway to southern Yemen and the seat of the Saudi-backed internationally recognised government. Houthi spokesperson Yahya Saree said on X that a Saudi military cargo aircraft carrying weapons was present there, and Reuters reported there was no immediate comment from Saudi authorities. Houthis then attacked Aden airport on Wednesday, according to government officials, and residents heard an explosion near the facility as fighting escalated in Yemen. The strike marks a further escalation in the conflict, which is caught in the wider Middle East confrontation.
