Colombia is importing a growing share of its natural gas supply in the form of liquefied natural gas as domestic production continues to fall, according to the U.S. Energy Information Administration. The EIA's Today in Energy report said the trend could intensify. A potential drought this fall and winter could limit hydroelectric generation and raise demand for natural gas-fired power. Colombia's government has declared a national disaster in anticipation of a drought linked to an expected strong El Niño.
