Scientists have described a new species of flat, armored amphibian that lived entirely in the ocean about 237 million years ago. Two nearly complete fossil skeletons were found in southwestern China. Researchers suspect its marine lifestyle was an evolutionary accident, since most amphibians depended on fresh water or land.
