With more than 90% of votes counted in Israel's election, neither the pro-Netanyahu bloc nor the anti-Netanyahu bloc is positioned to form a majority government. France 24 reported on Thursday that Netanyahu's bloc had won 53 seats, against 67 for the opposition, including 48 for Gadi Eisenkot's centrist bloc and 19 for the Arab-majority parties. Deutsche Welle had earlier reported that the pro-Netanyahu bloc was narrowly ahead, so the two outlets give different seat pictures for the same count, and the result remains provisional. Israeli President Isaac Herzog called on the parties on Wednesday to "do everything" to form a coalition and avoid a return to the polls. Coalition negotiations will determine whether either bloc can govern.
