USDA has identified 74 animal cases in the United States since parasitic screwworm flies were first found in the country in June, Ars Technica reported. Four dogs and a cat were attacked this week. The flies lay eggs in wounds, and the larvae feed on living flesh. The outbreak has spread to household pets, raising concern for owners and veterinarians.
