Novaya Gazeta, Russia's best-known independent newspaper still operating inside the country, announced it is shutting down on October 30. The outlet blamed years of state pressure and repression over its reporting on the Kremlin and the war against Ukraine. The closure followed the eviction of its editorial staff from its Moscow office on Potapovsky Lane, where journalists had worked for 29 years. The Anna Politkovskaya museum in her former office will also close. Russian authorities had earlier blocked the outlet's websites and faced license revocation, raids and arrests.
