Bloomberg reported on October 30, 2026 that EA closed BioWare after choosing to fund Star Wars: Battlefront 3 rather than a new Mass Effect game. According to the report by Jason Schreier, EA had to choose between two costly sci-fi projects while facing about $18 billion in leveraged debt after its sale to a business consortium. GameSpot, IGN, Eurogamer and PC Gamer all relayed the account, describing it as the economic reasoning behind ending a 30-year-old studio. GameSpot also noted separately that EA shelved a mysterious Sims project.
