Finnish President Alexander Stubb rejected reports that Vladimir Putin delivered an extended lecture on medieval Slavic history during an October 27 telephone call. Stubb said the call was initiated alongside Norwegian Prime Minister Jonas Gahr Støre at Ukraine's request to open a direct channel to Moscow. He said Finland does not act as a neutral mediator and backs Ukraine fully, a position he said he communicated directly to Putin.
