A newlywed yeshiva student was arrested days after his wedding for evading military draft and sentenced to 20 days in military prison, according to The Jerusalem Post and Haaretz. The arrest prompted outrage among haredi leaders, who demanded his release. Haaretz reported that ultra-Orthodox protests erupted in Jerusalem after the arrest, and that United Torah Judaism chairman Yaakov Asher called it boundless insensitivity. Haredi leaders also accused Netanyahu of failing to resolve the haredi draft crisis.
