Researchers studying Australia's Great Barrier Reef found that nearly 75% of observed crown-of-thorns starfish feeding events left living coral tissue behind. The starfish tend to feed on fast-growing dominant corals, which creates room for slower-growing species to survive. Reported by ScienceDaily, the study suggests the starfish can help reef diversity when their populations are kept in check.
