Authorities in Mashhad have banned the display and sale of jewelry and coins bearing the Lion and Sun emblem or imagery linked to the former monarchy, according to a notice from the city's gold traders' union. Iran International reported the ban, which applies in the northeastern city that is the hometown of Supreme Leader Khamenei. The notice was issued by the gold traders' union and no official reasons beyond the notice were reported.
