A small venomous primate once thought extinct still survives on Indonesia's Bangka Island, according to a recent study reported by Mongabay. The Bangka slow loris (Nycticebus bancanus), native to parts of Borneo and Bangka, was previously declared critically endangered and possibly extinct. Local communities on the island never regarded the species as lost, and the study says it remains present there. Its survival is still threatened by habitat loss and other pressures on the island, so conservation risks persist.
