Israeli President Isaac Herzog began deliberations on Wednesday on whom to task with forming a government, with neither Benjamin Netanyahu nor Gadi Eisenkot holding enough seats after a divisive election. The president's choice carries the decisive vote on who gets the first chance to try to become prime minister. Al-Monitor reported that the process could last weeks or even months and may end in failure and new elections. Herzog holds a largely ceremonial role but is meeting party representatives as he weighs which candidate has the best chance of forming a coalition.
