The United States conducted what officials called limited, defensive strikes on Iranian targets in the Strait of Hormuz, including on Qeshm Island, late on November 2 into November 3, 2026. A US official told AP of the strikes, and CBS, the BBC's US partner, reported that officials described them as limited and defensive. Iranian state television reported that explosions were heard on Qeshm Island. The strikes come on the eve of the US midterm elections and add to the ongoing confrontation between Washington and Tehran.
