Atlas Obscura profiled the Muurhuizen, or Wall Houses, a quiet, nearly car-free residential street in Amersfoort, Netherlands, a few minutes' walk from the city centre. The street follows a section of the outer city wall built around 1380 after a booming economy forced the town to expand. The original wall was dismantled, and from 1500 residents began building homes into the remaining structure. The feature notes that people still live on the street today.
